Reserve Deputy Marshals are unpaid, volunteer, Police Officers charged with the duties of a normal and paid Deputy. The Reserve Program is specifically tailored so that North Salem community events may have a police presence. Reserves must be willing or able to work special events around the year, perform basic patrol functions during down hours, and must have a willingness to serve a small community.
Requirements:
1. Must be at least 21 years of age
2. Must have vision correctable to 20/40
3. Must have a HSED or equivalent
4. Must have no felony convictions
5. Must have no domestic battery convictions
6. Must be able to pass a CVSA examination
7. Must be able to pass a physical examination at the cost of the applicant only
Applicants must; additionally, have and maintain a valid driver's license in the State of Indiana and must be an Indiana resident.

Employment with the Town of North Salem Police Department is an at-will position only. The Town of North Salem Police Department reserves the right to terminate employment with any Reserve Deputy as they see fit and when circumstances should arise where termination may be considered. The Police Department may or may not hold a formal discourse or disciplinary hearing prior to the termination of any Deputy depending on the infraction type.

Employment with the Town of North Salem Police Department is dependent on the applicant meeting all requirements and expectations set forth by the Office of the Marshal, and any subsequent requirements determined necessary during the hiring process including an CVSA examination, a physical health examination, and a psychological examination at the expense of the applicant.
