Marshal Layton Kiger
Welcome to the North Salem Police website! I, originally, pitched the idea of this website for the purposes of transparency and establishing a direct line of communication from the Police Department to the public. With that being said:

I took over in November of 2025 as the Town Marshal of this small quaint town! I am currently full-time as a Correctional Officer (INV) for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. I have thus far thoroughly enjoyed my time serving the community of North Salem! I work part-time for our community, but don't let that deter anyone from reaching out and speaking to me. I have an open-door policy and am more than happy to answer any questions posed by the public or do my best to resolve any issues that might be brought to my attention! If you see me or one of my officers around town, please feel free to stop us and say hey!

The Hendricks County Sheriff's Office provides a police service to the County of Hendricks. More specifically, North Salem in the absence of the North Salem Police Department. We are gracious for the partnership and the assistance offered by the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office and their remarkable Deputies!
Hendricks County Communications Center
The Hendricks County Communications Center, located in Plainfield, is the lifeline overwatch for emergency services and the residents of each municipality within Hendricks County. We are exponentially thankful for the services provided by this Center and being our lifeline!
Eel River TWP Fire & Rescue
The Eel River Township / North Salem Fire Department provides an exceptional service to the residents of both the Town of North Salem and the Township of Eel River. The department provides a prominent service that the North Salem Police Department otherwise cannot provide, and we are exceptionally thankful for their presence!
