North Salem Elementary School
The Town of North Salem Police Department has taken notice of an increased number of roadway users violating the imposed school speed zone limit in front of and around the North Salem Elementary School. Due to the increased number of speed limit violators, the Town of North Salem Police Department shall be issuing citations to all roadway users, local and non-local, for speed violations exceeding 10MPH in the posted 25MPH zone.

Please take notice that being late for school in a separate School or School District, being late for work, or being late for family events are not excuses for violating the imposed school speed zone limit. The Town of North Salem Police Department is now introducing a "North Salem Elementary Initiative" during the months of February and March of the 2026 calendar year. This initiative will have a zero-tolerance approach for any speed violations exceeding the aforementioned 10MPH excessive speed(s).

Further, it should be noted that the locally imposed school speed zone limits begin and end where they are respectively indicated. This does not mean that you can increase your speed to the equivalent of highway speeds while exiting the school zone on either the North or South sides. Entrance to, and exiting from, the school zone will be enforced, as well. ​

The Town of North Salem Police Department is devoted to providing exceptional service related to the safety of the public, both local and non-local. Given this statement, we are keen on being entrusted by both the Department of Transportation for both Indiana, and Hendricks County, and privately owned companies operating through-out town. We encourage that residents and non-residents remain cognizant of the flaggers from these various locations as flag violations will be treated with zero tolerance regardless of any circumstance. Flag related violations will be met with swift action.
